RSC and Universities

All capable students should have the opportunity to study chemistry at university in any region of the UK.

However, the high cost of providing laboratory based subjects such as chemistry has prompted some universities to close science departments in recent years due to financial pressures.

We believe that these closures pose a risk to the sustainability of the science base in the UK.

The RSC has been very successful in highlighting these issues and bringing them to the attention of the general public.
