The Detective's Eye
Friday 11 June, 13.30 for 14.00-16.00
The Library, The Chemistry Centre, Burlington House
Chemist and fine art collector Alfred Bader talked at the Chemistry Centre about the thrill of discovering a great forgotten work, and the joy of restoring it to its former glory.
Dr Alfred Bader, founder of Aldrich (later Sigma-Aldrich) the world's largest supplier of research chemicals, has combined his passion for fine art with his distinguished career as a chemist. Bader introduced the use of Old Master paintings from his private collection on the covers of its catalogues.
"I am an inveterate collector. It may be a sickness, and it began with stamps at eight, drawings at 10, paintings at 20, and rare chemicals at 30."
