RSC - Advancing the Chemical Sciences

Science Policy Board

The purpose of the Science Policy Board is to develop, approve and ensure the pursuit of RSC science and technology policy relating to research in, and application of the chemical sciences.

The Board's membership comprises 3 members nominated by RSC Council and the Presidents and Chairs of the Divisions and Forums.  In addition a number of appointed members sit on the Board to ensure good representation of industry.

The Board oversees the science policy work of the RSC either by managing projects directly or by taking an overview of projects run by the Divisions and Forums.  The major project for 2008 is the development of a Technology Roadmap fro Chemistry that will shape the science priorities for the RSC.

The Board also has two working groups: the Environment, Health and Safety Committee (EHSC) and the Diversity Working Group.  EHSC is a long-established committee that has overseen the RSC's work in chemical safety and legislation for over 25 years.  Most recently EHSC has led the RSC's work on REACH.

The Diversity Working Group has recently been established to take ownership of the RSC's increasing work in the Diversity arena.  Work has been on going looking at women in chemistry for some time but more recently the RSC has began work looking at ethnic minorities and chemistry and disability and chemistry.
