Professor Annie Powell

BSc PhD CSci CChem FRSC

Annie Powell is Chair of Supramolecular Chemistry at the University of Karlsruhe. She was educated at the University of Manchester (BSc and PhD) before taking a postdoc at the University of Freiburg. She then lectured at the University of Kent and subsequently at the University of East Anglia where she became Professor in 1998 before moving to Karlsruhe in 1999.

She has been a member of RSC's Dalton Division Council 1996-98, organising the second Dalton Discussion meeting at East Anglia in 1999, and is a regular reviewer and author for RSC journals.

Annie Powell has a thorough knowledge of the academic system and is involved in large-scale cooperative research networks funded by various agencies giving her insights into many areas of modern chemistry and nanotechnology. She is also an evaluator of research proposals, research institutes and academic departments in universities. She teaches and examines university chemistry candidates and supervises a group of researchers hailing from all over the world, making her well-placed to view the impact of chemistry from a global perspective.

She supports the aim of the RSC to ensure that the contribution chemistry makes to improving our world is clearly understood by people at all levels of chemical knowledge.
