RSC - Advancing the Chemical Sciences

Science Writer Internship

Job Purpose

The RSC is looking for a student member to work as a science writer in our editorial office this summer. You will gain experience working for two of our publications: Chemistry World and Education in Chemistry.

This eight week position, supported by the Marriott Bequest Trust, will provide a hands-on introduction to the complete editorial process from writing and editing to page layout and printing.

Desirable skills and qualifications

With an interest in science communication, you'll demonstrate an enthusiasm for writing and will probably be coming towards the end of, or have recently completed, your chemical science degree or postgraduate course.

If that sounds like you, please send your CV accompanied by a letter describing how you would benefit from the experience. We also need to see three varied samples of your previously published written work. If you don't have any available samples, compose some of your own 'Chemical Science'-style news section pieces based on some recent journals papers.

Cambridge, UK. This 8 week position is supported by the Marriott Bequest Trust and a bursary of £1750 is provided. Closing date: 25 May 2012. Vacancy reference no. 12-49.
