Centenary anniversary in 2004 of Sir William Ramsay's Nobel prize
10 December 2004, University College London
To mark the centenary anniversary of Sir William Ramsay's Nobel prize for the discovery of the Noble Gases in 2004, the Royal Society of Chemistry awarded the University College London (UCL) an Historic Chemical Landmark site.
The ceremony was part of a programme of events to celebrate the anniversary and followed a symposium entitled Chemistry at University College before Ramsay which was held in the Chemistry Department during the day.
This was followed by a lecture given by Professor Alwyn Davies FRS, UCL on Ramsay: The Man, The Myth (and the Bicycle) attended by over 100 people. The guests then transferred to the Slade School of Art (site close to where Sir William carried out his research) to witness the unveiling of the landmark plaque by the President and Provost, UCL, Professor Malcolm Grant.
The ceremony was then followed by the Chemistry Department's annual dinner attended by students, staff and guests of UCL.
