Professor Maruoka has a wide range of research interests in synthetic organic chemistry, and his current research interests include bidentate Lewis acids in organic synthesis and practical asymmetric synthesis with chiral organocatalysts such as chiral C2-symmetric phase-transfer catalysts, chiral bifunctional organocatalysts and chiral Brønsted acid catalysts.
