Pfizer Global R+D Labs, Sandwich, Kent
Introduction
A workshop was run prior to ARF09 which addressed the following questions:
- Ever wondered how the Pharmaceutical Industry discovers and develops drugs?
- Ever wondered what the role of analytical science is within the Pharmaceutical Industry?
- Ever wondered what the current analytical challenges are that the Pharmaceutical Industry faces?
- Do you ever wonder if your research could be adapted so that it is applicable and of benefit to the Pharmaceutical Industry?
About the Workshop
The workshop explored the important role Analytical Chemistry has in Pharmaceutical Drug Discovery, Development and Manufacture.
The workshop was open to students, researchers and academics working in the area of analytical science who are interested in developing and / or extending their knowledge of Pharmaceutical Analytical Science.
Subject matter experts from several scientific disciplines described enabling applications of modern analytical science for different areas of the industry. Also discussed was the current and emerging challenges the industry is facing in areas such as biotherapeutics, vaccines and inhalation products, together with latest advances in Analytical Technology.
The workshop was formatted as a series of oral presentations and posters. An opportunity to view analytical science put into practice was also provided during a short tour of Pfizer's Sandwich facility.
