Faraday Discussion 139: The Importance of Polymer Science for Biological Systems
03 October 2007
University of York, United Kingdom
26 March - 28 March 2008
Registration now open
This unique international discussion meeting will bring together researchers from different backgrounds (physical chemistry and biology) to share their knowledge and foster new collaborations and directions.
The meeting will aim to focus on two main strands: the physical chemistry of macromolecules as common ground between biology and polymer science; and the problems associated with biocompatibility and biodegradability of polymers, particularly with regard to their role as therapeutic delivery vehicles.
It will be opened with an introductory lecture by L Mahadevan (Harvard University, USA).
Sessions discussed during the meeting:
- Cell Interactions
- Membranes and Walls
- Proteins and Polysaccharides
- Natural and Synthetic Polymers
Proofs of the invited and contributed selected papers will be circulated well before the meeting. Since each paper has been read in advance, Faraday Discussion 139 will be able to concentrate on genuine fruitful debate. The whole of the proceedings will be subsequently published including submitted Discussion remarks which include those that 'the contributors said, or think they said or wished they had said'. This means that any delegate at the conference has the opportunity to make a major contribution.
Registration closes on 25 February.
