15 - 17 June 2009
The Royal Society, London, UK

Soft nanotechnology aims to build on our knowledge of biological systems, which are the ultimate
example of 'soft machines', by:

  • Understanding, predicting and utilising the rules of self-assembly from the molecular to the micron-scale
  • Learning how to deal with the supply of energy into dynamically self-assembling systems
  • Implementing self-assembly and 'wet chemistry' into electronic devices, actuators, fluidics, and other 'soft machines'

Organised by the Faraday Division, this discussion will incorporate aspects of structuring softmaterials at the nanoscale and the incorporation of such materials into actual devices.

The meeting will be opened with an introductory lecture by Richard A L Jones (Sheffield, UK). George Whitesides (Harvard, USA) will conduct the closing remarks.

For your chance to be published in Faraday Discussions and discuss your work at the conference, submit an abstract for oral presentation. The latest ISI citation data give an impact factor for Faraday Discussions of 5.0, emphasising their importance as a forum for developing new ideas.

Deadline for submission of abstracts for oral presentation - 18 July 2008

For more information on the scientific aims, details on how submit an abstract, and the full list of invited speakers presenting their work at the conference see the 'In this section' links.
