40th IUPAC Congress
August 14-19, 2005
Beijing, China
Theme: Innovation in Chemistry
With nearly 1000 participants from 64 countries, the 40th IUPAC Congress, held 14-19 August 2005 in Beijing, helped to build a bridge between Chinese chemists and the world. With 412 of the participants from China and 556 from other countries, the Congress was an excellent forum for encouraging cooperation and excellence in the chemical sciences and in the practice of chemistry.
The high-scientific value of the Congress was evident in the plenary lectures, which were delivered by eight distinguished chemists, including three Nobel Laureates and one Einstein Award Winner. A total of 1145 papers and 622 posters were presented in eight sessions of the Congress.
Sessions of the Congress:
- Environmental Chemistry and Green Chemistry
- Chemistry in the Life Sciences and in Chemical Biology
- Materials Chemistry and Nanochemistry
- Information Technology in Chemistry and Computational Chemistry
- Innovation in Physical Chemistry and Biophysical Chemistry, Research Methods and Techniques
- Innovation in Methodology, Techniques and Instrumentation in Analytical Chemistry
- Innovation in Chemical Education and Teaching Methods
- Innovation in the Chemical and Petrochemical Industries and "Responsible Care" to Society
39th IUPAC Congress
10-15 August 2003
Ottawa, Canada
Theme: Chemistry at the Interfaces
The joint meeting of the 39th IUPAC Congress and the 86th Conference of the Canadian Society for Chemistry (CSC) was held in Ottawa from 10-15 August 2003 at the Westin Hotel and Ottawa Congress Centre. In all, 2500 participants attended, including 850 students, with slightly over 2000 papers presented, 800 as oral presentations and 1200 as posters.
The title of the conference-"Chemistry at the Interfaces"-was chosen to indicate the breadth of chemical science and to confirm the vitality of our subject not only in the macro-interfaces, from biology through materials science to physics and computing science, but also within the micro-interfaces of the various subdisciplines of chemistry.
The main body of the technical program, which consisted of over 50 symposia in more than 160 sessions, was both international in scope and broad in range of topics.
The program included six specific chemical themes:
- Analytical/Environmental
- Chemical Education
- Inorganic
- Macromolecular Science and Engineering
- Organic
- Physical and Theoretical
