Chemistry 4 Chemical Engineers

08 - 10 September 2009, Leeds, UK

Introduction

It is common for chemical engineers and chemists to be working alongside each other in many areas of industry and academia. The ability to communicate between the disciplines is crucial, but requires a basic level of knowledge and understanding of fundamental chemical concepts.

This three-day residential course, developed by a multidisciplinary group of chemists and chemical engineers at the University of Leeds, is designed to familiarise chemical engineers with the fundamentals of modern chemistry with the aim of bridging the knowledge gap to enable effective collaboration.

Benefits to you and your organisation

  • Familiarisation with the basic concepts of organic, inorganic, physical and analytical chemistry, demonstrated with everyday examples to illustrate main points
  • Experience in basic laboratory techniques
  • Hands on spectroscopic analysis experience, and demonstrations of state-of-the-art analytical facilities
  • The opportunity to learn about more advanced chemical topics at an appropriate level of detail
  • Improved, more effective communication between employees, particularly those working at the chemistry - chemical engineering interface
  • Improved knowledge of chemistry used by work force
  • New contacts with numerous academics from one of the UK's leading universities, many of whom are recognised as leading specialists in their field
