Chemistry in the New World of Bioengineering and Synthetic Biology
28 February 2008
22 - 24 September 2008
Oxford, UK
Deadline for abstracts for oral presentation - 7 March 2008
This is a new type of conference being organized by RSC under the leadership of the Chemistry-Biology interface Forum with support from the Materials Chemistry Forum.
It will explore a number of new and inter-related research areas at the interfaces between the physical sciences and biology.
The EPSRC and the BBSRC are both sponsoring this conference and will both have a presence there. This is because they expect to invest increasing amounts of funding in these areas over the coming years.
Themes and invited speakers:
- Theme 1: Creating New Biological Systems and Functions:
Ron Weiss (Princeton, USA)
Jason Chin (Cambridge, UK)
Victor de Lorenzo (Madrid, Spain) - Theme 2: Novel Biomolecular Devices:
Henry Hess (Florida, USA)
Luc Jaeger (Santa Barbara, USA)
Andrew Turberfield (Oxford, UK) - Theme 3: Assembling Custom Bionanomaterials:
Joshua Edel (London, UK)
Dek Woolfson (Bristol, UK)
Duncan Graham (Glasgow, UK) - Theme 4: Augmenting Tissue through Chemistry:
Jacob Klein (Weizmann Institute, Israel)
Milan Mrksich (Chicago, USA)
Samuel Stupp (Northwestern University, USA)
Join us at this unique event. You may wish to make an oral or poster presentation, or simply come along to hear about the latest science from our excellent speakers. To present your work at the conference, submit an abstract by 7 March 2008.
You will also be able to talk to members of the research councils about funding of research in these areas, and meet with many other scientists who will be joining us at this event.
For more details on each theme and how to submit an abstract, please see the In this Section links.
