Suggest a Conference

If you have an idea for organising a conference then we would be interested in hearing from you.

Initially we will need a brief outline of the possible subject scope and any additional ideas you have regarding the number of speakers and delegates, length of conference, etc. Please contact us by email, or if your ideas are quite advanced it would be helpful if you could download, complete and return the conference proposal form.

A member of the RSC conference team will then contact you in due course.

We'd also be interested in your ideas for potential hot topics for conferences; please contact us.

Types of conference

We can organise conferences with many different structures, from one day meetings in niche areas, to established multi-day conferences, to international peripatetic congresses.

A very specific type of meeting that we organise is the Faraday Discussions. These unique international scientific conferences have a special format in which papers are distributed to all participants in advance of the conference and almost all the meeting is devoted to discussion of the papers. In this way, any participant at the conference has the opportunity to make a major contribution, and the papers and discussion are subsequently published.

What we do

The RSC conferences team can offer:

  • Professional advice
  • Advice on scientific programme and committees
  • Scientific programme management
  • Budget and financial management
  • Venue management
  • Exhibition and sponsorship management
  • Handling of registrations, payments and bursaries
  • Secretariat for committees
  • Abstract handling
  • Marketing and publicity
  • Correspondence between committees, speakers and delegates

Approval processes and timelines

Conference proposals are governed by a sub-committee of the RSC Awards, Conferences and Travel Grants committee (ACT), the Conferences and Events Portfolio sub-committee (CEPSC). Conference proposals are drawn up by the Convener (the conference organiser, normally the person who initiated the proposal) in consultation with a member of the RSC conference team. The proposal is then tabled at a meeting of CEPSC for approval. CEPSC normally meets twice a year. Please contact the conference team for deadline information.
