Oxidative DNA Damage

28 March 2008
Research and Engineering Centre, Dublin City University, Dublin, Ireland

Introduction

Oxidative damage in the human DNA can occur from a variety of sources including photoionisation (e.g. sunlight), chemical oxidation (e.g. styrene) and attack by reactive oxygen species. Mutations in the DNA have potential implications on mutagenesis, disease and ageing.

Aims of the workshop are:

  • to investigate the different causes of reactants which lead to oxidative DNA damage in the human body
  • to investigate the types of oxidative DNA damage that occur
  • to identify tools and techniques that allow research into the biological characteristics of these diseases
  • to discuss the development of early diagnosis techniques and tools for disease monitoring

Call for posters

A poster session will take place over lunch. Abstracts must be submitted online to Yvonne Hübner. The abstracts should be no longer than one A4 page in portrait layout. Please include your full address and contact details in the email.

Please note that due to limited space not all abstracts will be accepted. Selection by the Committee is based on abstract quality and achieving a balanced discussion. All presenters need to register for the conference.

Programme

Registration will begin at 10.30 and the meeting will be opened at 11:00 with a welcome from the meeting chair. The meeting will end after the closing remarks at 16:30. The programme includes six presentations on the challenges in life sciences and analytical chemistry as well as time for networking and discussion.
