Enzyme technology for high value products - White Biotechnology
16 July 2008
Manchester Interdisciplinary Biocentre, Lecture Theatre and Atrium
Deadline for registration: 10 July 2008
Introduction
This free workshop investigates how renewable products can be derived from biomass-based platform chemicals by using enzymes in a sustainable way. Presentations follow the succession of the supply chain and start with exploring the use of enzymes to produce platform chemicals. In the afternoon top speakers will investigate how these platform chemicals can then be converted into high-value products such as polymers, food additives and pharmaceuticals.
Aims of the workshop are:
- to introduce the use of biocatalysts (white biotechnology) for manufacturing
- to raise awareness of the opportunities that biocatalysis offer industry
- to facilitate collaborations between experts using enzyme technology
Registration
Attendance to the workshop is free of charge, but all participants are kindly asked to register online. Deadline for registration: 10 July 2008
Call for posters
A poster session will take place over lunch. Abstracts must be submitted online to Elizabeth Milsom. The abstracts should be no longer than one A4 page in portrait layout. Please include your full address and contact details in the email. All presenters need to register for the conference.
A poster prize will be awarded to the poster that best communicates research to a lay audience.
Programme
Registration will begin at 10.00 and the meeting will be opened at 10:30 with a welcome from the meeting chair. The meeting will end after the closing remarks at 16:30. The programme includes six presentations on the challenges in life sciences and analytical chemistry as well as time for networking and discussion.
Jointly organised by
The event is organised by FROPTOP, a joint Special Interest Group of Chemistry Innovation, Bioscience for Business and the Royal Society of Chemistry that aims to develop the market for renewable chemicals in the UK. FROPTOP covers the gap between renewable, biomass derived 'platform chemicals' and existing chemical and biochemical processes.
