Programme Management
Following the 2004 Roberts' Review of 'Strategically Important and Vulnerable Subjects', the Higher Education Funding Council for England (HEFCE) identified a need to work with chemists to ensure a sustainable future for chemical science education.
The RSC were invited to submit a proposal for substantial funding over a 5-8 year period with the aim of enhancing chemical science education. This funding would complement the existing Aimhigher project 'Chemistry: The Next Generation' which had already demonstrated great success.
A bid for the project was submitted in February 2006 and Chemistry for our Future, a £3.6 M, two-year pilot project, was launched in September of the same year.
A steering group and advisory group were established to oversee the development and financial management of the programme. The Advisory Group meet three times a year, and the Steering Group twice a year.
