Discover Chemistry Academic CPD
One of the primary aims of Discover Chemistry is to deliver an enriched UK-based talent stream of motivated and suitably-skilled scientists that will address the future recruitment needs of industry. Although much of the focus is on school and undergraduate students, a principal feature is to encourage a life-long learning approach to education.
For UK-based academics, Discover Chemistry is keen to support Continuing Professional Development (CPD) in areas of strategic importance to the UK chemical industry. Included amongst these are; new synthetic methods, development of enabling technologies and collaborative research in key multidisciplinary areas e.g. chemical biology.
By supporting attendance at conferences and events, Discover Chemistry will provide UK academics with the opportunity to broaden their knowledge and expertise and incorporate the learning into their own research and training activities.
Financial support from Discover Chemistry will typically be delivered in the form of travel bursaries. Since late 2008, Discover Chemistry has provided funding to support attendance at a series of meetings including:
- 2009 Oxford Synthesis Meeting
- Biological and Medicinal Chemistry Symposium (Cambridge)
- Bristol Synthesis Meeting
as well as a travel bursary for Dr David Spring (Cambridge) to attend the Gordon Research Conference (High Throughput Chemistry and Chemical Biology, New Hampshire, USA).
If you are organising a scientific meeting which you feel may qualify for Discover Chemistry support through travel bursaries for UK-based academics, please send your proposal to Lorna Thomson.
