Discover Maths for Chemists
Discover Chemistry aims to ensure graduates are equipped with the correct skills to pursue a successful career in the chemical industry. In recent years, many industrialists have reported that graduate recruits show a significant gap in their mathematical abilities and problem-solving skills.
To support undergraduates and universities, Discover Maths for Chemists produced a single web-based resource that links to the best of the existing resources available across the UK.
The site can also be used as preparation for those A-level students who have been accepted onto chemistry degree programmes and features new, custom-built resources to tailor maths support specifically to the needs of chemists.
Highlights include:
- Google-style searching allowing users to search using chemical or mathematical terms
- Categorisation of resources based on length, relevance and format
- Beginner to advanced course material - providing support from GCSE level onwards
- Brand new concepts to help with revision - pre-requisite knowledge and context based examples
- Resources to assist with relating first-year maths to chemistry courses
- User ratings and recommendations - allowing students to evaluate and comment on their favourite resources.
- Users will be encouraged to suggest new resources which will be vetted before possible inclusion
Launched in September 2009 this free to use site will continue to be developed through 2009/10 and will be dependent on user response to the site.
