Discover Chemistry
The RSC is working with Pfizer on a new initiative, Discover Chemistry, which will centre on the skills needed from graduates to ensure the chemical industry continues to thrive in the UK.
The UK chemical industry is facing increasingly complex challenges that require innovative chemical solutions and UK graduates must be trained to a high standard in order to maintain a competitive edge. It is vital that our education system can foster the attitudes and skills required for the UK to lead innovation in this industry.
Several projects are being devised which will seek to:
- Help, excite and inspire students at all levels, emphasising the importance of problem-solving and training to think.
- Encourage students to continue to study the subject and to demonstrate multiple career options open to chemists.
- Improve the provision of maths support for the increasing number of first-year chemistry undergraduates who lack qualifications or confidence in maths.
- Support teachers in delivering key areas of the curriculum.
- Work with universities and funding organisations to help develop courses that develop expertise in emerging areas.
Through the Discover Chemistry programme, Pfizer and the RSC aim to promote a life-long approach to education and to develop skills that are vital to the future of the chemical industry.
