International advisory board for Education in Chemistry
Education in Chemistry invites practising chemistry teachers in the secondary and tertiary sectors from around the world to join its International Advisory Board. The remit of the new board, on which there are expected to be representatives from Europe, the US and Canada, Australasia, and the Middle and Far East, will be to advise the editor on potential subjects and authors that might lead to feature articles in the magazine. Board members may also be called upon to act as referees to articles and to review books and software for the magazine. It is not anticipated that the board will formally meet but there should be opportunities to meet with the editorial team.
As part of the overall strategy of the Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC), Education in Chemistry aims to promote and encourage the chemical sciences in schools, colleges and universities, and support the CPD of chemistry teachers in these sectors. Through its student supplement, InfoChem, the magazine shows a positive image of the chemical sciences. The editorial policy of Education in Chemistry, which was established over 45 years ago, remains:
- to present modern chemistry in ways that will stimulate teachers at the various levels to improve their own presentation of the subject; and
- to record the experiences of those who have tried new methods and approaches to the teaching and learning of chemistry, including practical chemistry.
Consequently, the editor aims to include at least one current awareness article of general chemical interest, which should appeal across the readership. The remaining articles and content of the magazine are divided equally to reflect the interests of secondary and tertiary chemistry teachers. It is not the policy of Education in Chemistry to publish primary research in chemical education, but the editor is keen to make the results and conclusions of such research accessible to practising teachers.
If you are a regular reader of Education in Chemistry and would like to join the magazine's International Advisory Board, please send your contact details, including the level and subject areas you teach and any specific chemical research interests, to the Editor.
