A free smartphone app has been launched which allows users to view 3D displays of live collisions from the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) in Geneva.

The LHSee app has been created by Alan Barr and his team at the University of Oxford. Users can find out more about the LHC, learn how the ATLAS detector works and play the Hunt the Higgs game.

Alan said 'I love the detail in the live displays - it's amazing to see that you can pick out the different individual proton collisions'.

Creation of the app was funded by the UK's Science and Technology Facilities Council. It runs on the Android operating system and is also available in French, German, Italian, Spanish and Swedish.
