Following the success of the 2011 event, Google have launched their second annual Science Fair. Billed as 'the largest online science competition in the world', the fair is open to students aged 13-18, in teams of up to three. Prizes include Google Chromebooks, visits to CERN and cash of up to $50,000.

Entrants are required to pose a question, develop a hypothesis and conduct scientific experiments to test it. The entire process is submitted online via a dedicated website.

Questions asked by students last year included 'How can I cure cancer?', 'Can I teach a robot to learn English?' and 'Can I build a faster sailboat?'
