Electrochromic polymer
Polymers are used in everyday objects from plastic bags to synthetic clothing and we are used to the versatility that these plastics bring us; being tough, malleable, flexible, elastic etc. On top of these valuable mechanical properties, chemists have worked hard to make polymers that conduct electricity as well as metals.
In this activity students make their own electrochromic polymer - a polymer who's colour can be controlled electronically.
