Surely that's banned?

Classroom practicals form an integral part of many science courses. However, there are concerns that many schools now shy away from the more exciting and entertaining experiments amid fears that some of them may be banned.

The RSC commissioned CLEAPSS (Consortium of Local Education Authorities for the Provision of School Science Services) to investigate the extent of the myths and misconceptions surrounding chemicals and procedures thought to be banned in schools.

The final report is now available and confirms that the concerns are justified. There are substantial misunderstandings on the part of science teachers and technicians about the chemicals and scientific activities which are banned in schools and some teaching is inhibited by unjustified concerns about health and safety.

You can download the report below. For more information, please contact the Education Department.
