Public Analysts

Throughout the UK there is a network of laboratories that specialise in the science of public protection. The Public Analyst works to ensure the health and safety of the public in relation to food standards, environmental matters and consumer protection. They ensure that various goods, including food, water, toys, cosmetics and medicines meet safety standards and comply with the law.

The Association of Public Analysts (the APA) is the professional body for these highly skilled scientists who make up the front line of the UK's public protection service.

The APA training committee organises training courses and publishes literature to support MChemA candidates.
