RSC teaching support pack on energy and climate change

Chemistry, Energy and Climate Change Slide
The RSC is providing free teaching material about energy and climate change in the light of recognition of the workload under which secondary school teaching staff operate today.

We are concerned that the current educational system is not addressing the important mathematical aspect of the subjects.

The electronic material, with easily understood schematics, draws on public and university lectures which our Chief Executive, Richard Pike has given in China, India, mainland Europe, and more recently in Shetland, where his views have been captured in a 4,000 word article in New Shetlander magazine, entitled 'Averting Climate Catastrophe?'

Shetland now represents the most progressive administrative area in the UK in terms of developing wind-sourced hydrogen projects, and the use of refuse for town heating systems.

In our drive to get lessons away from 'teaching to the test', we are encouraging far-sighted and inspirational secondary school teachers to make the material available to their pupils, to provide a more rounded education.

The slides and text highlight the inconsistencies in current energy and environmental strategies, and challenge misleading information that still finds its way into school textbooks, and other material issued into the public domain.

We hope that you will introduce the material into your teaching programmes. We would be pleased to answer any questions or comments that you might have regarding the pack or the related issue.
