Requirements

The RSC font contains many useful chemical symbols. You will need the RSC font installed in order to view the databases on the site correctly.

Install the RSC font

Databases on this website are displayed using Microsoft Access. If you have Microsoft Access installed you will be able to view them. Otherwise, you will need to install a runtime version of Microsoft Access. This will enable you to view but not manipulate any Microsoft Access database.

Install Microsoft Access Runtime

If you are running Access 2003 please ensure that you have installed Office 2003 Service Pack 2. This is freely available from Micosoft and you can find it here. Without Office 2003 Service Pack 2 you will encounter problems opening the databases from within the zip file. Alternatively, the databases may still be accessed if you save the zip file to your PC then remove the files from it and open them separately.

If you already have Access installed, depending on the version, you may encounter a security warning when opening a database file over the web. Please be assured that the RSC is a trustworthy source and you are safe to ignore this warning, but also please read our Terms & Conditions.

The installer for Access Runtime is held in a .zip file. Depending on your operating system, you may need to follow the instructions on-screen to unzip the file then activate the installer by clicking on the .exe file.

In order to view the databases correctly you will need to install the RSC font which contains many useful chemical symbols. Click here to install the RSC font.

You will need a web3D viewer (plug-in) in order to view some of the Interactives contained on this website. You will find more information and a comprehensive list of web3D viewers at www.web3d.org. However, we recommend Cortona.
