What is a Chemistry at Work event like?

crime scene crowd
typical event lasts three days (although one and two day events also take place). The venue is often a college, university or school, but events have taken place at all sorts of locations - from a town hall to a disused supermarket, to an internationally-known theme park. Anywhere with either a few small rooms or a single large hall is suitable.

Local organisations that use the chemical sciences in their work are invited to put on a short presentation (20-30 minutes) about some aspect of their work. They will give this several times to different groups of children during the course of the event.

Local schools are invited to send groups of students to the event, each accompanied by a teacher. They will normally spend half a day at the event and see about six different presentations.

Up to 1000 students and 60 teachers might visit a three day event.
