  1. Electrochemistry. A manufacturer of chemical detectors describes the chemistry behind breathalysers and how the detectors work.

  2. Clay analysis. The need for clay testing is explained and one of the methods of analysis explained. Some information is given on interpretation of results.

  3. The use of gel electrophoresis to separate strands of DNA is demonstrated and explained.

  4. Laboratory instrumentation. The use of Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy to identify the molecular composition of materials is presented including how the instrument works.

  5. In order to distinguish between man-made underground explosions and natural events such as earthquakes the science of forensic seismology has been developed. This science is discussed including its use in determining the structure of the earth.
