2011 UK Chemistry Olympiad

2011 UK Olympiad Team
The 43rd International Olympiad competition 2011 ended in great success for the UK team.

The team flew out to Turkey in July to compete against 71 other countries as their chemical knowledge and skills were put to the test. These young scientists sat a five-hour practical and three-hour theoretical exam, and their hard work was certainly evident by the excellent results.

  • David Edey from Alcester Grammar School was awarded a gold medal, and his outstanding score of 94.8% placed him third in the world!
  • Nicholas Parker of Haberdashers' Askes Boys' School, Elstree, was awarded a silver medal
  • Douglas Buisson of Hills Road College Cambridge won a bronze medal
  • Abdul Mohamad from King Edward VIth Grammar School, Chelmsford was awarded an honourable mention

Also pictured are Tom Crotty, Corporate Affairs Director INEOS, Chas McCaw and Ben Pilgrim, who acted as Mentors for the team and accompanied them to Turkey.

The UK selection process for the International Chemistry Olympiad is supported by an unrestricted educational grant from INEOS.
