On February 23rd 1841, the Chemical Society of London held its first organisational meeting.  One of its aims was to hold meetings for "the communication and discussion of discoveries and observations, an account of which shall be published by the Society".

The RSC holds a complete archive of the minutes of meetings held from the first meeting to the most recent.  In addition, there is a complete digitised archive online of the various journals of the Chemical Society such as the 'Memoirs and Proceedings of the Chemical Society' and 'Journal of the Chemical Society'.

In 1891, fifty years after the formation of the CS, an album was compiled of original letters and portraits of all the original fellows of the Society.
