Chemical Enquiry of the month - August 2007
The enquiry this month
- I need advice on where to find information on REACH legislation and to see what impact it will have on my business
Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation and restriction of Chemical substances (REACH) is a European Union law, regulation 2006/1907 of 18 December 2006 whose implementation began on 1 June 2007. The legislation covers the production and use of chemical substances to address safety, to phase out the use of hazardous chemicals and to encourage innovation to replace these.
The documentation consists of 1,000 pages of text and 30,000 chemicals are to be registered over 11 years. There are a number informative free of charge websites from authoritative sources to help with understanding this regime for the regulation of chemicals.
Members will find that Chemical Business News Base (CBNB) through the ChemVillage platform and Business Source Corporate through the EBSCO platform in the Virtual Library are very useful for keeping up with chemical business literature on the commercial effects of REACH
