Free Chemical Information Resource of the month - March 2008
The European chemical Substance Information System ESIS provides information on chemicals classified into lists including:
- EINECS (European Inventory of Existing Commercial chemical Substances) lists of chemical substances with definitons which were deemed to be on the European Community market between 1 January 1971 and 18 September 1981.
- ELINCS (European List of Notified Chemical Substances) the replacement to EINECS. All "new" substances brought on to the European market are allocated an ELINCS number after their notification to the European Commission. The ELINCS number is also obligatory on labels and packaging.
There are tabs for each list with drop down menus and search engines. For example in the EINECS tab CAS Registry Number can be chosen from the drop down menu and the number for which the EINECS is required entered and searched. Each entry provides general information such as CAS number, EINECS number, Substance Name and Chemical Formula.
