Free chemical information resource of the month - May 2007

May 2007

Every month, the LIC will recommend a free of charge chemical information resource based on our experiences of answering members' queries at the Chemical Enquiries Help Desk.

You may find this regular feature useful for

  • improving the scope of your research
  • increasing awareness of freely available resources
  • finding out more about the potential of familiar resources

ChemIDplus is our resource of the month which provides structure and nomenclature authority files used for the identification of chemical substances cited in National Library of Medicine (NLM) databases, including the TOXNET® system.

ChemIDplus is structure searchable and links directly to many biomedical resources at NLM and on the Internet for chemicals of interest.  2D similarity or substructure searches can be performed with user provided structures.

ChemIDplus Lite is available for name and RN searching without the need for plugins or applets.

The database contains over 380,000 chemical records, of which over 269,000 include chemical structures, and is also searchable by name, synonym, CAS Registry Number, molecular formula, classification code, locator code, and/or biological/chemical property e.g. molecular weight, logP, water solubility, melting and boiling points.

ChemIDplus and ChemIDplus Lite are available through the NLM

Check out the free of charge chemical information link for other useful resources.
