Organisations Supporting the Use of Animals in Research
RDS: Understanding animal research in medicine
The Research Defence Society (RDS) was founded in 1908. RDS is funded by its members, most of whom are medical researchers, doctors and vets. Membership is open to individuals and to organisations. Corporate members include research institutes, university departments, medical research charities, learned societies and pharmaceutical companies. Membership is currently about 5,000.
There is also a RDS Blog where members are invited to comment on current issues.
Pro-Test: Standing up for science
Pro-Test was formed in January 2006 to demonstrate support for the construction of the new biomedical research facilities at Oxford University. Their first demonstration consisted of 3 people and a piece of A2 card. Their second demonstration attracted at least 700 as well as international attention from the media.
Their next demonstration will be in Oxford on 9 February 2008.
The Coalition for Medical Progress
The Coalition for Medical Progress (CMP) is an alliance of organisations that "share the common aim to ensure the UK continues to lead advances in human and animal medicine. The role of CMP is to help explain the case for medical progress and the benefits brought about by animal research."

Pro-Test aims to "counter the irrational arguments of anti-vivisectionists by raising public awareness of the benefits of animal research and creating an environment where scientists can speak out about their work and be proud of the contributions they make."
The Coalition for Medical Progress (CMP)
The CMP have created a 'Virtual Animal Unit' on their website and also invite visitors to submit questions.
The Association of the British Pharmaceutical Industry (ABPI)
The ABPI has a useful 'Animals in Medicines Research Information Centre' and explains the development process for new medicines.
Association of Medical Research Charities (AMRC)
AMRC has a section of its website devoted to 'Animals in Medical Research'.
