Biofuels and the environment


Put simply, plant photosynthesis makes the carbon for the biofuel by capturing CO2 from the atmosphere and producing glucose which can then be turned into more complicated molecules for fuels.

Environmental benefits

They are renewable and contribute significantly less to greenhouse gas emissions in their production and use than fossil fuels

Environmental costs

An important consideration, as the use of biofuels becomes more widespread is the competition of land for food crops with land for energy crops
