Nuclear Power Digest

01 December 2007

Nuclear power appears to be a clean, reliable and sustainable power source to meet the increasing energy demands of the world.  Developed towards the end of the Second World War it alleviates dependence on decreasing fossil fuel supplies and greenhouse gas emissions.  However there are public concerns over storage of nuclear fuel, reactor safety, radioactive waste management and security.

Exclusive to RSC members through the Virtual Library via Springer, the full text e-journal, Journal of Radioanalytical and Nuclear Chemistry.

Uses of nuclear energy

Nuclear power for civil use emerged from nuclear weapons research at the end of the Second World War when it was realised that the enormous amount of energy released from splitting...

Nuclear fuels and how nuclear energy is generated

Nuclear energy comes from the energy in the nucleus of an atom

Processing, Waste Management and Transport of Nuclear Fuel

There is more to the nuclear power industry than simply generating energy from the nuclei of atoms

Health, Safety and Security

Nuclear power has long had associations with health and safety hazards and the risk of terrorist infiltration

Future and Policy

Many governmental and international organisations are emphasising the importance of nuclear power as the way forward for the world's energy needs
