How to apply

All applications for financial support must be made in writing using the application form. 

You are advised to contact the Fund's adviser first before submitting your application because a key part of assessing your case will be to ensure that all sources of advice and guidance have been explored first, before financial support can be considered.

The application form will ask you to give full details of your:

• income
• savings
• capital
• debts
• housing expenditure    

Once your application has been received it will be reviewed by our adviser to ensure that your case is presented to your best advantage, before being submitted to the Committee for consideration

Applications for support can be made by post or electronically. If you need help in completing the application form or would like to have a printed copy of the form sent to you then please contact the Benevolent Fund office. 

The Fund looks at all applications on an individual basis, taking into account all relevant personal circumstances.

The Benevolent Fund's Committee Priorities:

• Immediate financial help to members and dependants who have suddenly hit hard times through personal or family illness, job loss and misfortune.  
• Maximising a beneficiary's income through assistance in claiming state benefits and helping those with debts to reduce payments.  
• Guidance and practical help on where to get higher and regular levels of support and representation where appropriate, e.g. Department of Work and Pensions Tribunals, Health Tribunals  
• Supporting beneficiaries who are in need of long-term help through illness
• On-going support to enable people to become self sufficient 
• Helping beneficiaries to maintain an interest in the chemical sciences
• Moral support to members and families who need colleague support rather than money.
