Case study 3

Mrs D

Widow of member in her late 70's.

Mrs D was living in rented house that had become too large and wanted to move somewhere smaller nearer her family, but she was on low income and state benefits.

  • Fund office provided information on sheltered housing.
  • Benevolent Fund Committee agreed to provide some of the removal costs as Community Care grant from the state was not available.
  • Volunteer Visitor assisted with applying for grants, discussing housing options in consultation with the Fund office and still maintains contact with the beneficiary in her new home. 

Case study 4

Dr Z

Member Dr Z had a young family and, due to disabilities, was confined to a wheelchair.

He requested assistance for a respite care break to take his family with a carer for a holiday in Blackpool.

  • Committee agreed to assist with respite care and transport costs.
  • Volunteer Visitor offers ongoing support.
