What chemistry has done for me - Cambridge 22 March

ChemNet members and teachers visited the RSC’s office in Cambridge to hear what chemistry can offer to those who pursue chemistry as a career.
Caroline Tolond the career advisor at the RSC, kicked things off with a quick outline of the huge range of opportunities that are available to chemical science graduates. She was followed by Gail Hutley a medicinal chemist from GlaxoSmithKline, who traced her route from GCSEs to GSK.  Dr Ariadhna Tripati, a geochemist working at the University of Cambridge, was up next who explained how her love of chemistry and geology which was born in her native California had combined to take her all around the world, from the Arctic to the tropics, and err… Cambridge. I think we all know which she preferred! Prof. Chris Abell, a biological chemist at Cambridge University and successful chemistry entrepreneur finished the evening off with an outline of what it’s like running a chemistry research group at a university, and how he has used his love of chemistry to co-found two chemical companies, AkuBio and Astex Therapeutics.
