Schools Analyst Competition - regional heats in the Northwest

SAC MMU 2006
Manchester Regional Competition 2006
The Schools Analyst Competition is held annually and is open to sixth form students who are undertaking AS Level Chemistry.

Within the North West Analytical Division the competition is held in three regions:

  • North Wales: 15th April 2008 at Bangor University
  • Greater Manchester: 30th April at Manchester Metropolitan University
  • North Lancs and Cumbria: 30th April at University of Central Lancs, Preston

The winners of each region qualify for the national final which is held at a different University in the UK each year. For an idea of the typical competition day please visit the University of Liverpool, Merseyside Schools Analyst Competition website.

The Region Involvement

Our Region first became involved in 1987, when we sponsored a competition at Manchester University. From this beginning, interest in the event throughout the NW Region increased dramatically with a second competition being launched at Liverpool University in 1988 and a third at Lancaster University added in 1990.

The competitions have grown in strength to a point where both the Manchester (now held at Metropolitan University) and Liverpool (now involving John Moores University) event typically attract 25 to 35 teams and the Lancaster competition had attracted up to 43 teams. The competition continues to flourish in the NW region and we have now established a venue at the University of Wales, Bangor, to bring in schools from Mid and North Wales
