RSC Chemical Biology Forum Annual Meeting 2007 Report
In September, the Chemistry Biology Interface Forum, (CBiF) met for the second Annual Meeting in Burlington House London.
The CBiF Executive Committee, chaired by Professor John McCarthy, sets RSC strategy for the chemistry and biology interface and meets three times per year. One of these meetings is accompanied by a substantially larger CBiF Annual Meeting, which serves as a forum where representatives from many RSC specialist interest groups (e.g. Nucleic Acids Group, Biophysical Group) and other interested parties assemble to discuss important issues. The next CBiF Annual Meeting is due to take place on 10 October 2008.
The chief aim of the CBiF is to promote high quality research at the chemistry and biology interface. For this meeting the Executive invited presentations from the BBSRC, EPSRC, MRC and the Wellcome Trust on their initiatives for supporting research at the chemistry biology interface.
Amanda Collis, BBSRC
Head, Tools and Resources, Biomolecular Sciences, Engineering & Biological Systems Science & Technology Group.
Paula Clements, MRC
Programme Manager; Structural Studies.
James Harden, The Wellcome Trust
Science Programme Officer; Moleculaes, Genes & Cells.
John Baird, EPSRC
Programme Manager for Chemistry
To show case research being conducted at the chemistry and biology interface, Professor Stuart Ferguson from the Department of Biochemistry, University of Oxford gave a presentation on his research, ‘Structure-function and bio-genesis of bacterial respiratory proteins.’
