Regional Meeting Guidelines
The organisation of each meeting is undertaken by a representative from the host institution, whose duties include:
- Making all the necessary bookings (lecture theatres, teas and coffees and meals if appropriate)
- Invite Keynote Lecturer if appropriate
- Seek nominations for postgraduates and post-docs to speak
- Seeking poster contributions
- Preparing and distributing the programme for printing
- Finalising all the local arrangements, including projection, catering numbers, poster stands, accommodation arrangements for guests
- Seeking further external sponsorship if needed
- Adding the meeting to the RSC events database
The procedure to apply for support from the Dalton Division will be straightforward:
- Initial proposal for meeting to be sent to Rebecca Sage, RSC including a request for financial support with an estimate of the costs involved.
- Dalton Division will acknowledge and if appropriate agree to support the meeting.
- Final report from the meeting (approx. ½ page A4) together with a photo for “RSC News” and the web will be sent to the Dalton Division Council, along with a summary of the expenditure, at which point the outstanding financial support from the Dalton Division will be paid.
- Convenor to identify the convenor and location for the next meeting as part of the bid for funding.
Current regions are:
- Scotland (e.g. Glasgow, Aberdeen, St Andrews, Strathclyde, Edinburgh, Dundee, Heriot-Watt, Durham and Newcastle)
- South and West (e.g. Bath, Bristol, Cardiff, Southampton, Oxford)
- Midlands (e.g. Nottingham, Leicester, Loughborough,Birmingham, Warwick)
- North (e.g. York, Manchester, Leeds, Sheffield, Huddersfield, Hull, Liverpool)
- USIC (meeting in Scotland organised by students)
New regions for 2008:
- South East (including ASPIC meeting)
Potential regions are:
- Ireland (e.g. Cork, Galway, Dublin)
- East Anglia (e.g. Cambridge, East Anglia)
Finances (as at May 2009):
- Dalton Division Council will typically allocate up to a maximum of £750 for each Regional meeting.
