FROPTOP - From renewable platform chemicals to high-value products

FROPTOP is a special interest group run by Bioscience for Business KTN, Chemistry Innovation KTN, the Royal Society of Chemistry and the Institute of Chemical Engineers.

The aim of the group is to:

  • bring industry and researchers together to develop routes to convert renewable chemicals to high-value products
  • identify the best ways for conversion and needs for new processes
  • be a useful discussion forum to identify market needs and to develop joint projects.

Participants in this group can work with top researchers and companies to influence the UK’s strategy for a sustainable chemical industry based on renewable feedstocks.

Renewable feedstocks offer the opportunity to replace fossil feedstocks as a source of energy, materials and chemicals. Sugars, oils and other compounds in renewable feedstocks can be converted into platform chemicals in conversion processes similar to the petrochemical industry today.
