Molten Salts Discussion Group

The Molten Salts Discussion Group (MSDG) has been actively involved in the field of ionic liquids, at high and room temperature, for over 30 years.

The Group holds two meetings every year, in the summer and just before Christmas: these meetings cover a wide range of non-aqueous chemistry and have recently included topics such as inorganic and organic molten salt chemistry, properties of ionic liquids, glass chemistry, molten and solid electrolyte fuel cell technology, battery applications, inorganic gas phase chemistry, geochemistry, electrochemistry, slags, metal refining, thermodynamics and chemical modelling.

The MSDG provides a network of experienced scientists to offer professional advice to other members. The Group actively encourages younger scientists working in the field of high temperature chemistry and membership of the Group provides numerous benefits.

Membership offers reduced registration fees for all MSDG Conferences as well as subscription to “Sels Fondu”, a European Molten Salts Publication. It is hoped to start a discussion page on the Internet in the near future. Access to this page will be restricted to MSDG Members only. This “Members Only” page will also contain the latest newsletter.

For student members the MSDG has a limited fund available to support attendance at relevant overseas, and local, conferences. Applications should be made to the committee for consideration.
