Organic Chemistry Poster Symposium
December 5, 2011
In 2011, the RSC’s Organic Division organised the prestigious Pfizer Poster Symposium, kindly sponsored by Pfizer Neusentis. The symposium was held at the RSC’s Chemistry Centre in London. Thirty students from all over the UK were selected to display their research; the Poster Symposium is an opportunity for final year organic chemistry PhD students to present their research and network with peers, academics and industrial scientists.
Judging was carried out by Alan Brown (Pfizer Neusentis), Stephen Clark (University of Glasgow) and Nick Westwood (University of St. Andrews). Despite tough competition, first prize was awarded to Benjamin Haffemayer (University of Cambridge) for his research on ‘amine directed sp2 and sp3 C-H bond functionalisation’. Runners up were Guang Yang (University of Glasgow) and Lindsay McMurray (University of Cambridge), with Michael Tait (University of Birmingham) winning the participants’ prize.
The RSC Organic Division Council thanks all those involved with last year's event and is delighted to be involved in running the 2012 event.
