RSC - Advancing the Chemical Sciences

Members

Process Technology Group

The Process Technology Group (PTG) is concerned with every aspect of chemical processing on an industrial scale.

Most of the Group's members are industrial chemists, working in industry as plant managers, process designers, control or analytical specialists, material technologists etc: others are among the select group of academic chemists who retain an interest in the industrial application of the subject.

Mission Statement

The Process Technology Group’s aims are to:

  • Identify and share important scientific advances in the application of the chemical sciences with RSC members
  • Implement best practice within the profession, and
  • Help to develop the skills and capabilities of RSC members throughout their careers as they study or work in the Process Industries

Scope

We define Process Technology to be the application of the chemical sciences and engineering to the design, development and support of production, process, quality and technical systems in industry.

Process Technology encompasses:

  • All aspects of the manufacture of raw materials, chemicals, foods, pharmaceuticals and other formulated products and their intermediates from new product research though to quality control
  • Chemical treatments during the manufacture of components and finished goods
  • The treatment and handling of materials and wastes within the utilities and manufacturing sectors
  • The implementation of regulatory, environmental and human safety standards

Who we are

  • A network of around 540 scientists and engineers operating in the Process Industries. About 80% of members are active within the UK, about 10% in the rest of the EU, 4% in the USA and some 4% in the rest of the world.

What we do

  • Organise scientific meetings, technical visits and workshops
  • Disseminate best practice and advanced applications in chemical technology and manufacturing industry
  • Provide a focal point within the RSC for Control, Process, and Chemical Engineers
  • Support CPD opportunities in the chemical industry for RSC members at all stages of career development
  • Support the RSC Young Member Networks (YMN) to gain understanding and liaise with colleagues in the Chemical Biotechnology and Process Industries
  • Publish a newsletter and occasional papers to keep members in touch with technical developments and provide a Forum for discussion
