RSC Activities in Australasia

Face with image of Australasia
RSC activities in Australasia are coordinated by eight RSC representatives in Australia and three in New Zealand.

The RSC sponsors travel grants for PhD students in Australia and also the RSC Australasian Lecturer who visits up to 32 universities in Australia and 6 in New Zealand.

Current RSC Australasian Lecturer

Professor Sally Brooker (University of Otago, New Zealand) has been awarded the 2011 Royal Society of Chemistry Australasian Lectureship.

The award is given in recognition of the exceptional research of the recipient. It will see Sally visiting up to 32 universities in Australia and New Zealand to present her group’s work on spin crossover systems, magnetically and electrochemically interesting Schiff-base macrocycles and self assembly of discrete multi-component grids and networks.

Professor Sally Brooker
Professor Brooker has already visited and presented department seminars at the University of Western Australia and Curtin University, in Perth. She will make two further trips to Australia, giving department seminars at the University of Queensland (Brisbane), University of New South Wales (Sydney), University of Sydney, Australian National University (Canberra) and University of Tasmania (Hobart), from 19-23 September 2011, and then at Adelaide University, Monash University (Melbourne) and Melbourne University, from 29 November-1 December.

In New Zealand she will present lectures at all 6 of the Chemistry Departments (Auckland, Waikato, Massey, Victoria, Canterbury and Otago) in the coming months.

A list of the previous winners of the RSC Australasian Lecturership (and of the fore-runners of this award) can be found on this page.
