1st British-Sino Joint Symposium on Chemistry

The RSC and the Chinese Chemical Society (CCS) cemented their closer working ties after the signing of the International Cooperation Agreement with a co-organised symposium on Materials Chemistry held in December 2006 in Beijing.

This event showcased the strong background China and the UK have in this field. Eight Chinese and eight British scientists gave presentations with over 100 delegates attending, including several of the RSC's members in China. Both societies also hosted receptions and banquets.

Carl Wolf, the RSC's International Development Manager (2006) said, 'we were particularly pleased to see so many students, especially as they were enthusiastically asking questions of all the guest speakers'.

The event was organised and sponsored by the RSC, the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC), the CCS and the National Natural Science Foundation of China, and co-sponsored by the British Embassy in Beijing, the Institute of Chemistry at the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Peking University and Tsinghua University.
